In summer the slopes of Mount Azhdahak, reaching a height of 3597 m, can be reached by all-terrain vehicle, and in winter, it will be necessary to walk on foot along the left side of Azat River. This volcanic cone is considered the highest peak of the Gegham mountain range.
On the slopes of Azhdahak, you can see many petroglyphs that have reached us from the V-IV millennia BC. : Various animals are depicted on them: fish, dragons-monsters, etc.
The ascent and descent to Azhdahak takes 6-8 hours for a tourist of average fitness. The road passes through beautiful trails that offer a view of an incredible landscape. Reaching the crater, it is possible to see the beauty of the crator lake.
The most beautiful vantage point to see Azhdahak in all its beauty is the peak of Karmirkatar, which also has a red color. Both Karmirkatar and Azhdahak have crater lakes. Azhdahak crater lake changes its colors several times in a minute. In good weather, Lake Sevan, Lake Akna, Lake Vanki and in one direction Hatis, Ara and Aragats can be seen from the top.
