THE FIST OF ARTSAKH – MOUNT METS KIRS

Mets Kirs mountain is located in the Ishkhanasar mountains, it is one of the branches of the southern part of the Artsakh mountain range, the height is 2724 m. Mount Kirs has a rather expressive appearance, and it stands out from a distance with its majestic beauty, the peak of the mountain looks like a clenched fist.

Mount Kirs is one of the symbols of Artsakh, it is depicted on the coat of arms of Artsakh in blue color. Mets Kirs mountain is also mentioned in the Anthem of Artsakh, in the poems of Armenia poet Vardan Hakobyan.

THE CULT OF METS KIRS

FAITH

The Varabdatsi, in the distant past and to a large extent even now, deified the whole nature and knelt before it. The mountain of Kirs with its white-white peak was sacred to him: many knelt down and prayed before him. Even now, the traditions regarding the deification of Mets Kirs are circulating among the people, and numerous pilgrimage places located on top of the mountain have taken away his deification from him.

In the legend of Tstsakar of Kherkhan village, a woman turns to Kirs and asks him to turn her into a stone, which comes a reality.

Mount Tsitskar of the Ashan village was once a woman who, persecuted by bandits, asked Kirs and has been turned into a stone.
