The Republic of Artsakh is known in the world as the Republic of Nagorno Karabakh. It is an unrecognized state that now has the status of a “de facto” existing country. The history of Artsakh requires the special attention of travelers visiting Armenia.

Artsakh has existed for a long time. Back in the days of the first Armenian kingdoms, Artsakh was a fraternal kingdom where governors and kings were the closest relatives of the leaders of Armenia.

The people of Artsakh managed to preserve the virgin nature of the Artsakh forests, thus telling their descendants about the history of their lands not only with their mouths, but also with their eloquent nature.

AND WHAT IS THE SECRET OF THE NATURE OF ARTSAKH THAT A LARGE NUMBER OF PEOPLE TRY TO VISIT IT EVEN SECRETLY?

We have already mentioned the first and most important thing: they are the forests of Artsakh. Green landscapes occupy a significant part of the country’s territory. One of the two main roads of the Yerevan-Stepanakert railway passes through the gorge in the area of ​​the river itself. And this is where the tale begins. The forests on both sides of the gorge become a gateway to that unique realm of peace, tranquility and harmony, harmony with nature.

In this small plot of land, there are a large number of architectural monuments that still retain Armenian motifs, but already have their own characteristics. Thus, it is difficult to confuse the Dadivank and Gandzasar monasteries with the Armenian Garni and Geghard, and the glorious fortresses – Askeran (Mayraberd) and Tigranakert fortresses have long become the country’s calling card and one of the most popular locations for filming.

Recently, the residents of Artsakh held a referendum and decided to take back the ancient name of their country of Armenian origin. Despite this, many people will recognize the state by the international name of the region for a long time. Artsakh is known all over the world as Nagorno Karabakh. That name was given to the place when, during the USSR, by a special and ambiguous decision of Lenin, Artsakh was included in the territory of the Azerbaijan SSR. The word “Karabakh” is literally translated as “black garden”.

Currently, Armenia and Artsakh are closely connected. Artsakh is considered the second Armenian state in the world, despite not being officially recognized by other states. That is why the residents of Artsakh receive the citizenship of the Republic of Armenia and are officially considered as citizens of the Republic of Armenia.
