Exploring Caves in Armenia

Armenia not only attracts adventure enthusiasts with its mountains and cliffs but also with its numerous caves. Most of these caves have remained unknown even to Armenians for years. The country is rich in a variety of fascinating and unique caves that need and should be used for touristic purposes. Speleology has gone through a significant development in Armenia during recent years.

The Magellan Cave is currently one of the most popular tourist destinations. Other interesting locations include the Arjer Cave (Bears’ Cave), Mozrov and Areni Caves.

Armenia also appeals to adventure seekers with its intriguing caves that feature stone doors. These are tunnels with a hidden entrance and a stone door at the end. Previously they were used as secret storage spaces for food. Only a few people knew the locations of the hidden caves. These caves can be mostly found in the Aragatsotn Province. One such cave is located in Ujan village.
