ROCK CLIMBING IN ARMENIA

Numerous mountains and cliffs in Armenia provide an opportunity to develop rock climbing. Rock climbing helps to leave the comfort zone, overcome fear and start trusting yourself. Different climbing routes evoke different feelings. Those involved in rock climbing note that it is similar to psychological therapy: helping to become more self-confident, ready to solve various problems and to remain calm in any situation. In Armenia rock climbing can be practiced in Noravank, Arzni, Davtashen, in the Canyons of Garni and the Arpa River.

The Rock Climbing Federation in Armenia held its first rock climbing tournament in 2009. The tournament started in the Hrazdan Gorge, continued in the Noravank Gorge, then in the Hell’s Canyon (Aratso Canyon) and ended in the Garni Canyon.

“I see dozens of photos each day, but these ones hit me like a bell. Before seeing a photo of Sam B all I knew about Armenia were wrestlers and chess champions. After seeing the photo I felt the need to know more about that country.” These were the words of Alex Chabot, a French professional rock climber. After seeing the photos of rock climbing areas in Armenia, he decided to go on a trip to our country.
