Despite being a relatively new type of extreme sports, rafting has gained a high popularity in Armenia. The main rivers for Rafting in Armenia are Dzoraget, with the 6th level of difficulty for rafting, and Debed, with the 4th level of difficulty.
Dzoraget
If you are a professional rafting enthusiast, then rafting on the Dzoraget River (located near the city of Stepanavan, which is 160 km far from Yerevan) is just for you. The rafting starts at a distance of 2 km from the mentioned point. The river has the 6th – the highest level of difficulty for rafting and has a high density of obstacles. The length of the route is 30 km. The duration of the rafting tour can take from 4 to 7 days, depending on the season and the level of the group training. The most suitable month for rafting is May when the weather conditions are favorable, and the water level is high.
You will not get bored during your free time from rafting as this area is rich in interesting sights, such as: Lori Berd fortress, Hnevank monastery, and etc.
Debed
The river Debed, with a length of 152 km, has the 4th level of difficulty for rafting. The most favorable time for rafting would be from June to October if we take into consideration the weather conditions and water levels. There are several sights near the river, such as: monasteries of Haghpat, Sanahin and others.
